Born and raised in Edinburgh, Mha Iri (pronounced 'Maari') grew up surrounded by the rich cultural heritage and natural beauty of Scotland, a grounding that shaped her love for powerful, emotional music.
She began writing songs, singing and performing live at local bars at the age of 16, but it was the raw energy of the local rave scene that created a passion that has transformed her life.
Mha Iri’s journey into techno is a global one, really kicking off in the vibrant underground scene of Melbourne, Australia, where she lived after travelling the world. As both a DJ and promoter, she quickly made a name for herself, playing open-to-close sets on a regular basis, forging her own dedicated following.
Returning to the UK during the pandemic, Mha Iri brought her refined craft back to her roots, ready to start a new chapter in her artist career, inspired by her global perspective and closeness to the natural energy of the stunning Scottish countryside.
Today, Mha Iri is a recognised name in the global techno scene, breathing fresh air and a unique sound into a well-trodden world. Having refined her sound, a fusion of big-room power and emotional depth, often incorporating her own vocals and never afraid to experiment, she has forged her own lane in the ever-changing world of techno music. She has steadily become one of the genre’s standout names, capturing attention in 2023 by scoring #1 best-selling female artist in Hard Techno on Beatport and #2 in Peak Time Techno.
2024 was another breakthrough year with multiple milestones: a major label signing (to iconic PIAS now part of UMG), a string of Beatport chart-topping releases on Drumcode, Filth on Acid, and Trick, and appearances at the world’s most iconic events including; Tomorrowland, Awakenings, Junction 2, Sonus, Terminal V, Hï Ibiza, Amnesia, Fabrik Madrid, and Fabric London. Tracks like “Leader of the Pack” from her four elements-themed EP series have become essential weapons for headline DJs, setting the tone at festival main stages and underground clubs alike.
2025 has achieved peak musical momentum; the first EP of the year on Drumcode shot to #1 on Beatport, swiftly followed by hard hitting single drop ‘Move’, the
official update to the 1993 techno anthem ‘Loops N Tings’ by Jens, and ‘Out Of Time’, a collaboration with US talent Marie Vaunt and a standout between two rising stars redefining the genre.
The year has been marked by Mha Iri’s Four Elements series. Showing her versatility and innovation as a producer, the 4 EPs themed around Earth, Fire, Water and Air, have amassed millions of streams and ring in a new era of high intensity hard dance and techno, true to Mha Iri’s signature sound.
Despite having the most intense music release schedule, Mha Iri has managed to circle the planet numerous times playing from LA to Mumbai! Securing a visa to tour the USA at the start of 2025, opened up a huge playground with no less than 10 shows already in a market hungry for high energy techno. Combining that with her weekly criss-crossing of Europe (and further afield) has meant more ways for our intrepid global traveller to make musical connections with ever bigger audiences feeding back into even more outstanding studio moments.
